SINGAPORE, THE FIRST FEW WEEKS - WHERE IS IT AND WHERE ARE WE (March 2011)

Need a quick Geography reminder?! Check out the map!

SINGAPORE - Covers an area of 69 sq. km.  This beautiful place lies between the nations of Malaysia and Indonesia. The diamond-shaped island is blessed with a vast coastline of 193 kilometers.  The urban areas account for 50% of the land whilst the rest is covered in parkland, reservoirs, plantations and open military areas. The main thing I have noticed - It's HOT, HOT, HOT and humid too!!

OUR TEMPORARY HOME (No! It's not a Carrie Underwood song!)

I guess you could say we have downsized lol!!!

Our temporary 1200 sq ft 2 bedroom apartment (just for a few months to give us time to find a more permanent place) is in a fabulous location, only a 10 minute walk to the major shopping belt of Singapore known as Orchard Road with it's many shops, restraunts and easy access to the public transport system or MRT.  There are Malls galore, at least 12 of them within a very short walking distance from our Condo.  Each mall is massive, that is not an understatement!  We are talking 5 - 7 stories, 2 or 3 of which are usually underground.  A lot of the malls are linked via underground walkways, both convenient and cool (literally).  I have never been up and down so many escalators in my life!
The top floors of the Malls as well as the basement level, are taken over by food courts and eating establishments of every kind.  Food is a major obsession here (for everyone, not just me ha ha!!).
