BIRTHDAY 51 - BACK TO FLUTES AT THE FORT

Well, another birthday rolled around for me this past April.   A good excuse for a nice meal out, so we headed to one of my favorite Singapore restaurants to celebrate.

Flutes at the Fort has featured in this blog before, click here.  This restuarant which is situated in an old Black and White on the edge of Fort Canning Park, is such a lovely place to go for that special occasion meal.  The food is good, though obviously on the more expensive side.  The service is great and they make you feel really special.  My White Chocolate Cannelloni With Financier, Summer Berry Coulis, Strawberries, Cress, Cocoa Glaze and Mandarin Segment desert, was beautifully decorated just for me.  A nice touch.

KOH SAMUI, THAILAND, MARCH 2013

This small island, (approx. 247km²), sits on the western side of the Thai Mainland - 700km from Bangkok - in the Gulf of Thailand.  Bordering the South China Sea and the Pacific, it is surrounded by more than sixty other islands, such as Koh Phangan and Koh Tao (divers island).  Many of which are small and uninhabited.

Though the first inhabitants were fisherman, some 1500 years ago, it was more recently "discovered" in the 1970's by backpackers.  Since then however, Koh Samui has developed as a major tourist destination, catering to tourists from all over the World.  Tourism is now the island's main source of income.

Bangkok Airways flies direct, a mere 1 hour and 50 min flight from Singapore - making it the perfect destination for a quick and easy getaway.  Exactly what hubby and I were looking for.

When using frequent flyer miles, it is always good to try and get as much bang as possible for your air mile buck.  With that in mind, after visiting my Mum in the UK, I decided to stopover in Dubai on my way back to Singapore.

I have never been to the UAE before, it, and Dubai in particular, has been on my bucket list of places to visit for a while.  I have some awesome friends who live there, so it was a great opportunity to catch up with them, check out their place, and the mighty Burj Khalifa!
