AN ABORIGINAL ART EXPERIENCE - QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA

The lobby of our Port Douglas accommodation had an array of leaflets, letting us know the many wonderful things we could do with our time in Far North Queensland.

One leaflet in particular caught my eye though, and I was very excited to experience it's offerings.

Having always been interested in art in all it's forms, I thought how wonderful to be able to experience creating my own piece of Aboriginal Art.

I must admit to having a little bit of an Aussie love affair.  I think it all started back in 1986 when a TV show called Neighbors blasted onto the screens in the UK.  Who could not get obsessed by the Charlene and Scott love story and those yummy Aussie accents!!  In the years since then, I have met many an Aussie and am also extremely pleased to count a few of them amongst my friends.  Here in Singapore, there are a lot of Australian ex pats - and a more fun group of people you never met.  In 2012, I finally got to take my first trip to Australia with a visit to Sydney.  This trip, we headed to Queensland, lured mainly by the beautiful weather there at this time of the year as opposed to much of Asia which is in rainy season.
We decided to take advantage of a four day weekend in Singapore due to the SG50 celebrations, so we tacked on some extra days, giving us a 10 day break.  Of course, being such good planners, we left it all a bit late, so booking flights and accommodation proved a bit of a challenge as all our first choices were fully booked.  So my advice would be, plan ahead and book early.  August in this part of Australia is a little bit popular so it seems.

August 9th 2015 will see Singapore celebrate their Golden Jubilee in massive style.

Rehearsals for the big day have been going on for the last few months and will culminate in a big parade, fly over of aircraft and firework extravaganza at a stadium built especially for the occasion on The Padang.

Everywhere the red and white of Singapore and the SG50 symbol have been evident and increasing as SG50 fever takes over.
