BIRTHDAY 51 - BACK TO FLUTES AT THE FORT

4/30/2013

Well, another birthday rolled around for me this past April.   A good excuse for a nice meal out, so we headed to one of my favorite Singapore restaurants to celebrate.

Flutes at the Fort has featured in this blog before, click here.  This restuarant which is situated in an old Black and White on the edge of Fort Canning Park, is such a lovely place to go for that special occasion meal.  The food is good, though obviously on the more expensive side.  The service is great and they make you feel really special.  My White Chocolate Cannelloni With Financier, Summer Berry Coulis, Strawberries, Cress, Cocoa Glaze and Mandarin Segment desert, was beautifully decorated just for me.  A nice touch.

The verandah of the Black and White is just a delightful setting for a lovely meal.  They have indoor seating as well, should you prefer air conditioning. Down below is a cocktail bar.  They make a mean Cosmopolitan.  Hubby tried a Lychee Martini which was also good.

Our appetizers:

Seared Sea Scallops With Kataifi Prawn Roll, Micro Celery, Nori Cracker and Nham Jim Dressing

Salad of Spanner Crab
With Avocado, Tomatoes, Wasabi Aioli and Mixed Herbs

For our main course, we decided on the ultimate pig out!!  Opting for the Cote de Beouf for 2.  Unfortunately the kitchen was out of the cut of beef intended for this dish.  We were asked if we would accept the Tomahawk cut instead.  Check out the huge bone on the plate lol!!  The meat was taken off the bone and beautifully presented.

We love this Australian wine.  It is velvety smooth and smelt as fantastic as it tasted.

A lovely touch to finish off my evening
I had a really lovely evening.  Flutes at the Fort, we will be back again soon.  Keep up the good work.

Update:

Very soon after I published this post, I had an email from Flutes inviting me to their "farewell" party!  Flutes are moving from their location at Fort Canning to a new one within the National Museum.  They closed down on the 18th May 2013 at Fort Canning and anticipate opening sometime in June/early July at the new location.  This makes me quite sad as the location at Fort Canning in that beautiful Black and White, was one of the major draws for me.  Oh well, I will be interested to visit them in their new location and will do so with an open mind.  Good luck on the new venture Flutes.
