I loved every minute of our four day stay at this beautiful, historic Hotel in Hanoi.  We feel so fortunate to have been able to experience this graceful Grande Dame, it was certainly a highlight of our time in Hanoi.  Read my separate post on Hanoi here.

Built in 1901, The Grand Hotel Metropole Palace was the brainchild of André Ducamp and Gustave-Émile Dumoutier, capturing the epitome of French colonialism, as Vietnam was under French rule at that time.

HANOI STREET FOOD TOUR - SEPTEMBER 2015

On any of the trips I take, it is usual for me to look through Tripadvisor, as I like to check out not only accommodations, but possible things to do in the place I am visiting.  It is also a great tool to get a general feel for the place in question.

We had a lovely guide called Kiwi
On a recent visit to Hanoi, the Hanoi Street Food Tour came out with very high ratings which made me think it would be a good thing to do.  I must admit to a little trepidation, as I know how basic some of the "local" eating places can be, but I decided to drag myself and my husband out of our comfort zones to give it a try.

We had a really great experience and we were so glad that we gave it a try

It is certainly not possible to take in everything Hanoi has to offer in a mere four days.

We managed to see and do quite a bit on our recent trip.  Though the intent had been to have an easy, somewhat relaxing break away, it was hard not to explore the many things on offer in this vibrant Northern Vietnamese City.
From museums, to lakes, to a street food tour, (click here for the post), this was a thoroughly enjoyable trip, though the heat and humidity was palpable and certainly draining at times.

Although I still consider myself totally an amateur blogger,  I am really enjoying the process, and  learning more each day about blogging and social media in general, coming across so many interesting people and blogs which further adds to my learning experience along the way.

Most of all I just love to take photos of my travels, and write about the places I have been fortunate to travel to.

HOI AN, VIETNAM - AN HOUR ON THE (THU BON) RIVER, MAY 2014

On our trip to the lovely UNESCO Heritage Town of Hoi An, Vietnam (main blog post here), we took a lovely, leisurely boat trip on the Thu Bon River which runs through the Town and out to the open sea.
Whilst having some clothes made we mentioned to the girls at the tailors, that we were about to go to the main jetty in Town to do a boat trip.  In typical Vietnamese style, one of the girls says she will call her Father-in-Law who has a boat.  She then promptly walked us down to the river where we were met by the captain and his boat.
