TIONG BAHRU'S O.D.P. REVISITED - AUGUST 2016

I last blogged about Open Door Policy way back in 2013.  I have returned a couple of times since then, but had yet to experience their new 100% Gluten and Dairy free menu which they rolled out in July.  The menu is curated by Chef Ryan Clift who also runs The Tippling Club, and the "sister" restaurant to ODP, Open Farm Community.

So, when asked by a friend to choose somewhere "new" to her to meet for lunch, it was an easy choice.
The long, narrow, but sophisticated shophouse setting in Tiong Bahru was perfect for a nice chatty lunch with a friend.  I have always loved the decor here, and being tucked away down Yong Siak Street in Tiong Bahru, a little bit quieter than say a bustling weekday CBD lunch.  That does not necessarily mean however that you shouldn't make a reservation in advance.  If you are heading to ODP at the weekend, you will, most assuredly require a reservation.  You can also opt for a counter seat, if you want to watch the chefs at work behind the glass screen.

As far as pricing goes, this is not going to be at the cheaper end of the scale.  Starters are in the $20's and mains range from the $20's to $30's.  However, they do a fantastic lunch special for $35++ which is a set 3 course menu which also includes a glass of wine, and a very generous pour too!!
FIRST COURSE:
Slow Cooked Celeriac Watercress sauce, swiss cured ham “speck”

Wow!  I can't really recall ever having tasted celeriac before, so it was a real surprise, almost potato like, which I loved.  The watercress sauce and the tangy ham made for a deliciously different mix of flavors.

SECOND COURSE:
Vegan Maccheroni Pasta, Portobello Bolognese Gratin, Bechemel
Gluten free pasta, with a delicious mushroom based sauce and a creamy bechemel.  It was very tasty.  The portion sizes were not massive, but certainly plenty enough, indeed I think this rich dish would have been a bit much in a bigger portion.

THIRD COURSE:
Signature Souffle with Double Chocolate Creme Anglaise
Oh my, what can I say.  This signature dessert did not disappoint at all.  There is a bit of a wait time for your souffle, as they are made freshly to order, but I always think it is nice to have a "rest", unless you are in a mad hurry of course.  A cross is cut into the top of the souffle at the table and a jug of chocolate sauce poured in - what is not to love!!!

All in all an extremely pleasant and lingering lunch.  I really thought the price was excellent value- almost as good a value as a lunch time catch up chat with a friend.

I think it is a little bit affordable when the price is $35++ which is a set 3 course menu includes a glass of wine, worth a try. Thanks for reviewing!
